Encino Ad Firm Donating to Saberhagen Foundation

This regular feature focuses on philanthropic activities by Valley-area companies and businesspeople. Encino advertising firm Inter/Media Group of Companies is donating its resources and expertise to create public campaigns for The Bret Saberhagen Make a Difference Foundation. The firm is helping the charity create and distribute television, radio, online and print promotional spots. Inter/Media is also helping design a new website for the foundation. Saberhagen, a retired two-time Cy Young award winning pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies, New York Mets and Kansas City Royals who currently teaches baseball at Calabasas High School, created the program in 2004 to stimulate philanthropy toward education, cultural growth and recreation opportunities for children. “The goal of this foundation is to make a difference and I believe that in the joining of Inter/Media and The Bret Saberhagen Foundation, we are doing just that,” Saberhagen said in a statement. “We may not be able to fix the world’s problems, but we can make a difference in the life of every child that we support. That’s a step in the right direction.” Disney Donates to Boys and Girls Club Burbank-based Walt Disney Co. has donated $5,000 to each of the 44 Boys and Girls Clubs in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The $250,000 donation, which also includes 50 free tickets to Disneyland Resort for each group, will benefit 220,000 young people in Southern California. “Organizations like The Walt Disney Co. make a huge difference, bettering our community by supporting our clubs through financial contributions that we can use to provide the best possible programs for our young people,” said Gary Thomas, chairman of the West Valley Boys and Girls Club, which has about 1,500 members. Disney has been involved with Boys and Girls Club for well over 50 years; Walt Disney was an honorary member of the group’s board of directors. Cartridge World to Plant Trees Woodland Hills inker and toner refilling store Cartridge World has partnered with National Arbor Day Foundation to plant trees in national forests that have been damaged by wildfire or other causes. The company plans to donate a portion of its sales towards purchasing more foliage in the parks. Starting last month, customers at the chain’s 550 stores will receive a “Plant a Tree Frequent Buyer Card.” Once filled, customers will get a certificate telling them that a tree has been planted in their name, the company said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for Cartridge World of Woodland Hills to contribute to reforestation and support America’s national forests,” said owner Burley Fox. Cartridge World advocates reusing and refilling ink cartridges to keep the discarded devices out of landfills, and has established recycling programs and fundraisers with community groups, schools and businesses across the country. Green Towards Green Wells Fargo and Co. is launching a new rewards program that allows customers to apply credit card points towards supporting renewable energy projects and receive certificates for their donations. For 5,000 points, cardholders can buy 6,000 kilowatt hours of green power; for 10,000 points, customers can purchase enough power to offset more than seven ton of greenhouse gas emissions. “By adding a twist of green to our program, we are making it easier for our customers to make eco-friendly choices and helping raise awareness about environmental issues,” said Nancy Beaver, Wells Fargo Card Services vice president of customer marketing.
