Unions Vote to Support Grocery Workers

The Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, along with a number of other unions said today that it would boycott grocery stores and provide strike assistance if the United Food and Commercial Workers choose to strike. The UFCW and management of Vons, Albertsons and Ralphs are currently negotiating a new contract for grocery workers at those stores. The LA County Federation of Labor, along with the Screen Actors Guild, Teamsters, American Federation of Teachers, Service Employees International Union and others would provide picket line support, demonstrations, boycotts and food drives for strikers, according to the coalition. The workers and stores are currently operating on an extended contract in effect until one of the parties requests a cancellation.
