Record Ridership on Metro Orange Line

High gas prices are being credited with record ridership on the Metro Orange Line. The 14-mile transitway that stretches from North Hollywood to Warner Center registered an average of 21,828 boardings per day during the month, a 15 percent jump, MTA officials said. The ridership figures are far ahead of expectations. When the $350 million bus lane opened last October, an Environmental Impact Report predicted it wouldn’t reach capacity until 2020. Citywide, MTA bus ridership jumped 10 percent for the month from a year prior, which translates to 34 million additional riders. Rail ridership also increased, gaining 18 percent, or 1.1 million boardings, during May.
