Groundbreaking ceremonies will be held Thursday for Americana at Brand, the $264-million mixed use project under development by Caruso Affiliated. The 15.5-acre site is bounded by Brand Boulevard, Central Avenue and Colorado Street. It will include 475,000-square-feet of retail, 238 apartment units and 100 condominium units. The project is moving ahead after Caruso won several legal challenges brought by General Growth Properties Inc., whose Glendale Galleria mall borders the property. In April, 2004, Caruso prevailed in a voter referendum. Caruso Affiliated is the developer of The Grove as well as The Commons at Calabasas and other centers.
