ValueClick Buys Two More Firms

Westlake Village-based online marketing firm ValueClick, Inc., has continued the buying spree that it has been on in the past year and a half, snatching up privately held online marketing company, Web Marketing Holdings Inc., for $141 million. ValueClick expects that the purchase will give it immediate scale in promotional and industry focused online content, as well as expanding the company’s sales channels. The company also purchased privately held E-Babylon, Inc., an online retailer of ink and toner products through its 123inkjets.com and 411inkjets.com websites. The price tag for E-Babylon was $14.7 million. Eric Martinuzzi, an analyst at Craig-Hallum Capital was bullish on the acquisitions and what they will mean for ValueClick. “They are terrific acquisitions, though obviously one is more significant than the other. The Web Marketing Holdings acquisition gets them more involved on the content side. This gets them more upstream to become content providers and that’s a good thing,” Martinuzzi said. “This is very much in line with the company’s acquisition of PriceRunner in August of 2004. PriceRunner was their first move into being a destination site. Now, ValueClick has a web presence out there. You can you touch and feel them on the Web.”
