News and notes from around the greater San Fernando Valley area ANTELOPE VALLEY Palmdale TV: A Palmdale hair salon, bQute Beauty Bar and Boutique, was featured on the Bravo television program. “Tabatha’s Salon Takeover” on Monday, January 31. The episode, which was entitled “Driving Everyone Crazy,” was described with the tagline, “The married owners of this salon believe if the business fails, then the marriage fails.” The owners, Frank and Shannon Peters, opened the salon on Aug. 24 of last year. The show’s host, Tabatha Coffey, utilizes her expertise in hair design and education to aid struggling salon owners successfully turn their shops around. bQute is located at 2140 E. Palmdale Blvd in Palmdale. LANCASTER Lights: A cost saver. Bright: The Mayor of the City of Lancaster, R. Rex Parris, announced that the Clear Channel Stadium in Lancaster would be using a new energy-efficient lighting system. The new, environmentally-friendly lighting system uses less energy than the previous system in use at the minor league baseball stadium, but is able to produce more light. The new system will save the city nearly $33,000 annually. “A few months ago we installed solar panels that will offset 98 percent of the stadium’s energy use. Now we have upgraded the lighting to also be more planet-friendly; both systems conserve energy and save money,” Parris said. “To give you an idea of just how much energy we are saving, every time these lights are turned on, 70,000 less watts are being drawn.” The previous light fixtures are currently being re-used throughout many of Lancaster’s parks, which save the city thousands of additional dollars every year. VENTURA COUNTY Camarillo Business: Jim Scanlon has been named as vice chairman of the Economic Development Collaborative – Ventura County. Scanlon is chief executive of Scanlon, Guerra, Burke Insurance Brokers in Woodland Hills. He also serves as chairman of the Young Insurance Professionals of San Fernando Valley, director of the Insurance Brokers Association of San Fernando Valley and is on the board of regents for Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula. The collaborative is a private, nonprofit organization that serves as a business-to-government liaison to assist businesses in Ventura County. SAN FERNANDO VALLEY WOODLAND HILLS Woof: The Pampered Pet Hotel & Spa officially opened on Feb.10 in Woodland Hills. The opening was marked by an official Ribbon Cutting Event, which was hosted by the Woodland Hills/Tarzana Chamber of Commerce. The hotel, which primarily caters to dogs, features standard rooms with amenities such as night lights, climate control, and sound system. The hotel also features luxury suites, which come equipped with flat screen TV’s, web cams, and full size-beds. Law: Estate and tax planning attorney Doron M. Tisser has been named as one of the top lawyers in the state by Southern California Super Lawyers magazine. This is the third year in a row that Tisser has been named to the list. Tisser received one of the highest point totals in the nomination, research and blue ribbon review process. He has been in private practice since 1982 and is founder of The Tisser Law Group. Universal City Hair: Over 450 representatives of the beauty and hair care company Sexy Hair met for the Universally Sexy: 2011 Sexy Hair International Sales Conference to discuss sales, advertising, and hair design education. During the conclusion of the conference, Sexy Hair officials announced that the company had a 41 percent increase in profit and an 18 percent increase in sales. The company also announced a new 70-city advertising tour throughout North America and Europe. “Our global community is truly our greatest asset and we are extremely grateful for their commitment to attend our conference each year,” said president and CEO, Karl-Heinz Pitsch. Van Nuys Water: Sonobath LLC chose CaesarStone USA as the exclusive stone supplier for their new collection of high-end vessel sinks. Created by celebrity designer Jae Omar, Sonobath’s sinks are available through architects, interior designers and designated kitchen and bath retailers. “CaesarStone is honored to be working with Sonobath in bringing Jae Omar’s unique vision to life,” said Arik Tendler, President of CaesarStone USA. “With their bold, converging planes and ingeniously engineered drain systems, these sinks look like fine artwork for the bath, yet they are also completely functional for everyday use. Burbank Learn: Warner Bros. Entertainment is accepting applications for its Honorship program giving students a package of a scholarship and internship. The program is for graduating high school seniors interested in careers in the entertainment industry attending schools in Burbank and Los Angeles County. After students complete the internship part of the program, Warner Bros. attempts to place the students in full-time positions at the company. Graduates of Burbank high schools can received two $10,000 college scholarships, and $2,500 vocational scholarships, with accompanying summer internships. One graduating L.A. County High School for the Arts senior is awarded an Honorship, consisting of a $10,000 college scholarship and summer internship. A graduating high school senior from the U.S. who will major in animation will received a $10,000 scholarship and summer internship. Chatsworth Ads: Provision Interactive Technologies, Inc. released a new case study highlighting the success an advertiser had while using one of their company’s 3D displays. The study focused on a national pizza chain’s advertising campaign which had utilized Provision’s 3D display with a promotional coupon from Provision’s 3DEO Rewards Center. The results showed a 170 percent sales increase of the food product as a result of the in-store 3D ad/coupon campaign. “While we’ve always known that our 3D platform would outperform traditional 2D in-store media, but this successful data is far beyond our expectations,” said Provision CEO Curt Thornton. “While there is plenty of published market data supporting that 2D digital signage works inside the retailer, there is no question in our minds that 3D is a better tool to reach consumers, especially when combined with our digital coupons.”
