Senator, California State Senate
Menjivar took the oath of office in December and represents Burbank and portions of the San Fernando Valley in California’s 20th Senate District. She is a first-generation American, the daughter of Salvadorean immigrants, and now represents areas where she grew up. She served in the Marine Corps from 2009 to 2016, got a bachelor’s degree from California State University – Northridge and a master’s degree in social welfare from UCLA. Menjivar was a fellow on the Los Angeles Mayor’s Gender Equity Team, was the East Valley Representative for the Los Angeles Mayor’s office and served on the board of the nonprofit Meet Each Need with Dignity, among others.
