Sun Air Takes More Space at Van Nuys Airport

Sun Air Jets has expanded its presence at Van Nuys Airport by securing two new hangar and terminal facilities at the general aviation airfield.

The addition of 62,000 square feet of hangar space in the northwest corner of the airport at 16706 Roscoe Blvd. will allow the Camarillo aviation company to better serve clients looking for secure and private hangar and terminal space in the greater Los Angeles market.

The new facility offers private offices, lounges, conference meeting rooms, gated guest parking and numerous other amenities to meet today’s business aviation requirements, the company said in a release.

The new hangar and terminal facility will be available for managed aircraft clients and tenants starting in June, the company added.

Aeroplex Group Partners assisted Sun Air in acquiring the space by securing entitlements and managing project development. Aeroplex will oversee the operations at the new facility as well as at the existing Sun Air terminal at Van Nuys.

Brian Counsil, chief executive of Sun Air, said that the collaborative relationship with Aeroplex ensures adequate space for its managed aircraft clients at the most desirable airport in Southern California for the foreseeable future.“By managing over 100,000 square feet of Van Nuys hangar space on a long-term basis, Sun Air Jets can strategically manage its future business growth and offer customers a home for their aircraft that meets the highest standards of safety and luxury,” Counsil said in a statement.

Curt Castagna, managing partner of Aeroplex Group in Long Beach, called the new hangar and terminal a significant tactical and strategic milestone for Sun Air.

“It’s an amazing new facility, that brings new investment and jobs to the San Fernando Valley, and we are excited that our decision to commit to a long-term vision for airport development projects nationally has proven correct at Van Nuys Airport,” Castagna said in a statement.

Also, Sun Air announced early last month that it would be offering sustainable aviation fuel at its location in Camarillo.

As a clean substitute for conventional jet fuel, sustainable aviation fuel is made from organic and renewable materials rather than refined from petroleum and can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 23 percent, the company said in a release.

Sun Air is among the first members of the Signature Select network to offer the cleaner fuel. Signature Select allows its 10-member aviation companies to leverage Signature Flight Support’s large fixed-base operator network while maintaining their independence.

“Now, more than ever, it is important for everyone to do their part,” Counsil said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to partner with Signature Select and Epic Fuels to be one of the first companies to offer (sustainable aviation fuel) and help our company and clients reduce their carbon footprint.”The sustainable fuel will be available at the same rate as conventional jet fuel while supplies last.
