DC Entertainment Partners With Spotify on Superhero Podcasts

DC Entertainment, its parent Warner Bros. Entertainment and Swedish streaming service Spotify AB announced on Thursday a multiyear deal to produce and distribute an original slate of narrative scripted podcasts. Financial terms of the transaction between DC and Warner Bros., in Burbank, and Spotify were not disclosed. The partnership will leverage iconic characters such as Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman in new Spotify shows. Additionally, the companies are expected to draw upon Warner Bros. Studio’s broader collection of timeless titles as stand-alone podcast series. Blue Ribbon Content, the digital studio of Warner Bros. Television Group, will oversee the creative relationship through Peter Girardi, an executive vice president. Robert Steele, senior vice president of business strategy and operations at Warner Bros. Digital Networks, will spearhead strategic business aspects of the partnership. Spotify will be responsible for the marketing, advertising and distribution of the shows exclusively on its platform. Steele and Girardi said that Spotify’s engagement with its consumers and commitment to prioritizing its podcasts makes the company an ideal partner in this endeavor. “We’re excited to bring beloved characters and franchises from DC and Warner Bros. into this new world and to use our storytelling prowess to redefine what’s possible in the scripted audio space,” Steele and Girardi said in a joint statement.
