Burger chain Shake Shack has opened a restaurant on Topanga Canyon Boulevard in Canoga Park, marking the company’s entry into the West Valley. The restaurant was scheduled to open earlier this year, but construction was delayed due to the coronavirus. It officially opened to the public Monday. “We are so excited to join the Valley community,” Shake Shack Chief Development Officer Andrew McCaughan said in a statement. “With our heightened safety protocols and continued focus on hospitality, we look forward to bringing guests our Shake Shack experience.” Because of the pandemic and related restrictions, operations at the Topanga Shake Shack look a little different than normal. Dining room seating has been set up at about half capacity in accordance with social distancing recommendations, and hours have been reduced to 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. According to a press release from the company, employees receive a health check before each shift and must wear masks and gloves at all times. In addition to burger-and-fry combo meals, the restaurant is selling “DIY Shackburger Kits” – including fresh beef patties, produce, buns, cheese, potatoes and sauces. There are several Shake Shack locations on the eastern portion of the San Fernando Valley, including one at the Americana at Brand shopping center in Glendale and on San Fernando Boulevard in Burbank. To the west, a Ventura County outlet is in the Promenade at Westlake Village. Shake Shack is headquartered in New York City, where it was founded. It has more than 280 locations in 30 U.S. states and 14 countries.
