AmerisourceBergen, a pharmaceutical company headquartered in Pennsylvania, is shutting down its Valencia location, laying off 93 employees.
The facility at 24903 Avenue Kearny is one of Amerisource’s 25 pharmaceutical distribution centers.
The company notified the state Employment Development Department of the closure Aug. 23. The change will be effective Oct. 25.
“This facility closure is no reflection on these highly qualified people but is due to our need to consolidate our national distribution network in order to more effectively compete,” said Michele Conte, vice president and associate general counsel at AmerisourceBergen.
Employees electing to remain with the company will be paid through Oct. 25, the company said in a statement.
"We are encouraging impacted associates to apply for positions of interest across the company," AmerisourceBergen said in a statement. "To date, more than 25 percent of Valencia facility associates have applied for and accepted new positions at other AmerisourceBergen locations."
The company is offering transfer assistance to eligible associates that need to relocate; separation packages will be available for associates that remain with the company through the closure.
