Capstone Turbine Corp. has appointed Denise Wilson to its board of directors.

Wilson is the former executive vice president for NRG Energy Inc., in Princeton, N.J., which provides energy and natural gas to more than 3.7 million residential and business customers.

“My career has allowed me to participate in supporting the development and adoption of a wide variety of alternative low-emission generation technologies,” Wilson said in a statement. “Capstone's innovative technology and strong leadership team make this a very exciting board opportunity.”

She is the third woman to be appointed to the board of the Van Nuys microturbine manufacturer.

Chief Executive Darren Jamison called Wilson a widely respected executive with valuable clean technology experience.

“We look forward to her valuable know-how and professional perspective as we execute against our stated strategic profitability objectives,” Jamison said in a statement.

Wilson’s appointment was announced last week. Shares of Capstone (CPST) on Wednesday closed down 37 cents, or 8.5 percent, to $3.96 on the Nasdaq.
