Three People Injured in Canoga Park Industrial Explosion

Three people were injured after an explosion rocked a Canoga Park industrial area Wednesday. The explosion collapsed part of the building’s roof and tore through three units. Per Los Angeles Times and Los Angeles Daily News reports, firefighters responded to reports of an explosion around 11 a.m. at 7851 N. Alabama Ave., which was apparently being used as a drug lab. According to Los Angeles Police Sgt. Jeff Collado, two men appeared to be using butane to process a cannabis concentrate colloquially known as “honey oil.” When authorities, along with a hazardous materials team and building inspectors, were dispatched to the 7841 – 7851 Alabama Ave. structure, no active fire was found upon their arrival. However, two people had to be taken to the hospital to be treated for burns — one in serious condition, another in grave condition — while a third person with minor injuries declined medical transportation, Los Angeles Fire Department officials said. Built in 1976, the 7841 -7851 Alabama Ave. warehouse site, which occupies 1.7 acres, currently houses 23 tenants, anchored by wholesalers E Pulse Magnetics and also including realtors Mat West Management, New Era Printing, ABC Upholstering and James Gray Printing, according to CoStar.
