Asset Management Meets Hollywood

When media services company Duplitech needed software to manage the original negatives it worked with in its film restoration business, it turned to Xytech, a Chatstworth asset management software provider. Duplitech, in Torrance, picked the MediaPulse software from Xytech to manage assets and categorize them as usable or non-usable. Steve Johnson, chief operating officer at Duplitech, said the company deals with sensitive and one-of-a-kind assets. Some of the deliveries it receives of film negatives can come on three pallets and must be managed on a database. That is where MediaPulse comes in. “Someone has to be able to quickly look at the data and say, ‘OK these are the assets we want to use, these assets can be destroyed, and these assets might need some additional preservation,’” Johnson said in a statement. “MediaPulse allows us to easily track what is going on with each of these assets and categorize them as usable or non-usable.” Duplitech’s core business is preparing catalogue titles for home entertainment releases. It also has a growing film restoration division that has worked on such films as “The Thing,” “Return of the Pink Panther” and “Teen Wolf.”
