Semtech Corp. has created a new senior level position and named a veteran tech industry professional to fill it. The Camarillo semiconductor developer has appointed Chris Chang as senior vice president of corporate marketing and business development. In that role he will lead corporate marketing and oversee the company’s China operations. He was looking forward to working with the Semtech global team to grow its markets, Chang said. “I have always admired Semtech’s outstanding business achievements and superior corporate culture and will use my industry expertise to help contribute to the company’s continued success and market leadership,” Chang said in a prepared statement. Prior to joining Semtech, Chang was chief executive of Alien Technology Corp., in San Jose, a developer of radio frequency identification technology. As head of the company, he turned around its financial performance, drove double-digit revenue growth and expanded in the U.S., Chinese and European markets. Chang also worked in executive positions in sales and finance functions at high technology corporations including Marvell, AMD, Silicon Graphics, and Eastman Kodak. The announcement of the hiring of Change was made Tuesday. On Wednesday, shares in Semtech (SMTC) closed up 5 cents, or a fraction of a percent, to $36.55 on the Nasdaq.
