Ventura County Thomas Fire Cancels Business Meeting

The Thomas Fire has caused the Ventura County Economic Development Association to cancel its annual holiday party, as Director Nan Drake lost her home in flames. The fire started late Monday afternoon and has burned more than 50,000 acres, according to information from the Ventura County Fire Department. An estimated 150 structures have been destroyed and 27,000 residents evacuated. Vista Del Mar psychiatric hospital in Ventura was one of the many businesses effected by the wildfire. The hospital was engulphed in flames. At least two structures, an administrative building and an adolescent unit structure were destroyed. The fire is expected to continue for the next three days. Sandy Smith, chair of the Ventura County Economic Development Association in Camarillo, issued an email stating that “other VCEDA members have homes that they have lost or are at risk.”
