IPC Acquires Virginia Doctors Group

IPC Healthcare Inc. has acquired Mid-Atlantic ElderCare PLLC, a doctors group focused entirely on providing medical care to patients of nursing homes and retirement communities, the company announced Tuesday. The North Hollywood company, which supplies doctors to hospitals and nursing homes, estimates Mid-Atlantic will bring about 64,000 patient visits a year. Mid-Atlantic is based in Woodlawn, Va., but has contracts with facilities in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Jeffrey Taylor, president of IPC Healthcare, said the acquisition will expand IPC’s coverage in the region. It also makes sense under the Affordable Care Act law that encourages providers to deliver an integrated care package with one bill for Medicare reimbursement. “This acquisition also continues IPC’s strategic expansion to partner with the best post-acute practices around the country and further strengthens our leadership position in managing the total episode cost of care under the Bundled Payment for Care Improvement Initiative and other similar programs,” Taylor said in a statement. Shares closed up 5 cents or a fraction of a percent to $79.35 on the Nasdaq.
