Valley Businessman Arrested in Crackdown

A San Fernando Valley immigration consultant is facing multiple charges for the unlicensed practice of immigration law in Van Nuys. Jesus Luna Lozano, 52, is accused of giving legal advice to two undercover investigators with the county’s Department of Consumer Affairs posing as illegal immigrants. Lozano, who works out of an office at 6320 Van Nuys Blvd., previously was ordered by the court to cease any consultant services in 2003, according to the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office. He is being charged with violating the injunction, the unauthorized practice of law and four other criminal counts. City Attorney Mike Feuer filed the charges as part of a campaign he announced in December to crack down on immigration fraud in the city. “My office is fighting to prevent immigration fraud schemes from ripping off families and destroying their dreams,” said Feuer, who held a press conference in City Hall on Thursday to announce the charges. “We will prosecute scam artists who try to victimize immigrants to the fullest extent of the law.” Lozano, who was not arrested and is not in custody, will be arraigned Feb. 27 in Department 40 of the Criminal Courts Building. If convicted, he faces up to five years and six months in jail. Lozano could not be reached for comment.
