Englander Declares for Antonovich Seat

Los Angeles City Councilman Mitch Englander announced on Wednesday that he is running for a seat on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Englander, 44, is one of several announced candidates vying to replace County District 5 Supervisor Michael Antonovich, who is ineligible for reelection due to term limits. The district stretches from Canoga Park and Chatsworth east into the San Gabriel Valley and north to Santa Clarita, Lancaster and Palmdale. Englander was reelected in March to a second four-year term representing District 12 in the west San Fernando Valley. He is the only registered Republican serving on the City Council. If elected, Englander said he would focus on protecting taxpayers, cutting waste, giving small businesses the tools to grow and create jobs, preserving our neighborhoods, and improving County services. “The next supervisor will oversee the reforms of the Sheriffs’ department, county healthcare, and child welfare systems, while casting crucial votes on public safety and economic development, and will oversee the county’s $28 billion budget,” Englander said in a prepared statement. Others running for the seat include state Sen. Robert Huff, R-Diamond Bar; Kathryn Barger, the chief of staff for Antonovich; county prosecutor Elan Carr and Glendale City Councilman Ara Najarian. Englander is a San Fernando Valley native who lives in Granada Hills with his wife and two daughters.
