Briefs: IPC, Ryland Group

IPC The Hospitalist Co. Inc. purchased Midland Hospitalists PLC in Midland, Mich., the company announced Thursday. The North Hollywood company, which provides doctors to hospitals and nursing homes, did not disclose financial details of the transaction. Midland will add about 16,000 patient visits to IPC. So far this year, IPC has purchased nine doctors groups in five states, including a purchase in March of another Michigan practice. The latest acquisition will expand operations in the tri-city area of Midland, Bay City and Saginaw, the company said. Shares closed down 35 cents, or nearly 1 percent, to $44.39 on the Nasdaq. Ryland Group Inc. announced a new townhome development in Indianapolis. The Westlake Village homebuilder will host a grand opening Saturday for its Park Meridian project, which features three-story townhomes ranging from about 1,700-square-feet to 2,300-square-feet. They are available in models of up to three bedrooms, with three and a half baths and a two-car garage. Each house will feature energy efficient materials and appliances, with prices starting at about $190,000. Ryland has built more than 300,000 homes in nearly 300 communities in 17 states. Shares closed down 41 cents, or 1.2 percent, to $34.66 on the New York Stock Exchange.
