Lancaster has reached an agreement to retain and expand one of its leading car dealerships at the city’s Auto Mall. The city will provide a $100,000 loan to Clutter Motors Inc. for remodeling, pay for $400,000 in streetscape upgrades and add signage to the Lancaster Auto Mall, just east of the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway. Clutter Motors operates Lancaster Honda, Antelope Valley Subaru and Lancaster Tire Pros. The deal is intended to keep Cutter at the mall for the next 20 years. The business also agreed to open separate motorcycle and watercraft dealerships in a vacant building at the mall, and make other improvements to its buildings. The deal is scheduled to be voted on by the City Council at its May 27 meeting. Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris said he expected it would be approved. “This business-friendly attitude goes a long way toward increasing revenue while providing much-needed jobs and city services,” he said, in a prepared statement. In 2009, the Council in its capacity as the Lancaster Redevelopment Agency approved a $2 million subsidy to Clutter to keep the Honda dealership operating.
