NBCUniversal is shutting down two websites in April after failing to find buyers for either property, according to media reports on Thursday. The closing of fashion and lifestyle site DailyCandy and review and recap site Television Without Pity will affect about 67 employees, mainly in New York, tech news and analysis website Re/code reported. Comcast Corp., in Philadelphia, bought DailyCandy in 2008 for $125 million, three years before acquiring NBCUniversal. The site has West Coast operations in Universal City. NBCUniversal’s Bravo unit acquired Television Without Pity in 2007, Re/code reported. Both sites struggled with increasing site visits and had difficulty monetizing content given the increased competition since they were founded, Re/code reported. In 2012, NBCUniversal hired former Home Box Office Inc. executive Alison Moore to lead DailyCandy. She was charged with increasing visitors and video offerings, including through a partnership with other NBCU television and digital assets. NBCUniversal is an investor in Revere Digital, publisher of Re/code, which was founded by Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher.
