IPC Buys Florida Doctors’ Groups

IPC The Hospitalist Co. Inc. has purchased two acute care doctors groups on Florida’s Gulf Coast. The North Hollywood company, which manages hospital-based doctors’ groups, purchased Neapolitan Inpatient Care LLC in Naples and Venetian Hospitalist Services LLC in Venice. Financial details of the acquisitions were not disclosed. With the acquisitions, IPC has made bought five doctors’ groups in Florida this year. “The Venetian and Neapolitan acquisitions are compelling because these practices have earned a reputation for quality care and clinical leadership throughout the healthcare communities of southwest Florida,” IPC President Jeffrey Taylor, in a statement. “In the new era of health care reform, these characteristics are rapidly becoming critical factors for success in hospital medicine.” IPC estimates the acquisitions will add about 30,000 doctor visits to its business. Shares closed up $1.34, or 2 percent, to $61.63 on the Nasdaq.
