Four Greater Valley Companies Make Fortune 500

Fortune magazine’s annual ranking of the 500 largest U.S. public companies was released on Monday and four companies in the greater San Fernando Valley made the list. Burbank media and entertainment conglomerate Walt Disney Co. was the highest placed local and L.A. company, ranking No. 66 on revenue of $42.3 billion. Thousand Oaks biotech giant Amgen Inc. ranked No. 162 with revenue of $17.3 billion, Woodland Hills insurer Health Net Inc. ranked No. 236 with revenue of $11.5 billion and Westlake Village produce company Dole Food Co. ranked No. 372, with revenue of $6.8 billion. The greater Valley is home to several large companies that did not make the list, including DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc., restaurant operator DineEquity Inc and storage company Public Storage Inc. All three headquartered in Glendale. The highest ranking local company outside the Valley on the list was DirecTV Inc. of El Segundo. It was No. 102 with revenue of $29.7 billion. The list this year was topped by Bentonville, Ark. retailer Wal-Mart Stores Inc., which recorded $469 billion in revenue, while Cupertino’s Apple Inc. broke into the top ten for the first time at No. 6 with $157 billion in revenue.
