Guitar Center Names CEO

Consumer electronics retailer Mike Pratt has been named chief executive of Guitar Center Inc. The Westlake Village company said that Pratt will replace Marty Hanaka, the company’s interim chief executive, as of April 1. Hanaka will remain on the board of directors and assist in the transition. Before joining Guitar Center, Pratt worked as president and chief operating officer for consumer electronics retailers Best Buy Canada Ltd. and Future Shop. “Mike is a proven leader in the retail industry with an impressive track record of success,” said Matt Levin, managing director at Bain Capital Partners, a New York private equity firm that owns the business through an affiliate, in a statement. Guitar Center operates more than 240 retail stores and websites that sell new and used musical instruments and equipment.
