Senior Housing Project Opens in Reseda

A 98-unit affordable senior housing development opened on Monday in Reseda. The $24.2 million project at 7238 Canby Ave. was built by L.A. developer Thomas Safran & Associates, which owns and operates more than 4,000 affordable rental units in California. It was backed by the L.A. Community Redevelopment Agency and the city’s Housing Department. The Canby Woods development features a large community room, TV room, computer area and fitness center. The senior complex will also provide community activities. One bedroom apartments run from $648 to $777, two bedrooms from $728 to $874. Thomas Safran, which will manage the building, began taking applications last summer for the complex, which will cater to low-income seniors aged 55 and over. The complex is on just over an acre near Reseda Blvd. and Sherman Way. It was partially funded by more than $8 million in loans from the redevelopment agency and housing department, according to city filings.
