Wood Stepping Down as Valley Economic Alliance President

Valley Economic Alliance President Ron Wood announced he will leave as head of the San Fernando Valley business assistance organization effective May 1. Wood had signed a two-year contract in 2011 to become the president and chief executive following the August 2010 death of long-time Alliance leader Bruce Ackerman. “It was planned this way,” Wood said. “We have completed all the things me and the board agreed to do.” Vice President Kenn Phillips will take over as interim president until the position is filled. Wood will act in an advisory role during the transition to a new permanent president. The biggest task Wood took on for the Sherman Oaks-based group was to shift back to its core mission of business assistance. The Alliance achieved that through job fairs, workshops, trade connecting events, and business to business expos, Wood said. During his tenure, the Alliance brought the U.S. Department of Commerce and Commercial Service to the Sherman Oaks offices and is working on bringing the Small Business Development Center to the Valley as well, Wood said.
