40 Under 40, Carnett

Lindsey Carnett, 29 CEO, Marketing Maven Public Relations Sometimes, thinking big is all it takes. Lindsey Carnett, 29, moved her fledgling public relations company Marketing Maven Public Relations into an office she thought was “far too large” and filled it with staff. Now, as the Camarillo-based company celebrates its three-year anniversary this month and continues to expand operations, the space is bursting at the seams. The CEO has added a New York office, and is growing through social media integration and a wide variety of campaigns. The firm ranked No. 8 on the San Fernando Valley Business Journal’s List of Largest Advertising and Public Relations Agencies this year and said, in a recent interview, that it has doubled its fees to $501,000 in 2011 and is on track to grow 50 percent to $750,000 in revenue this year. “Earning national media placement for my clients, executing PR stunts, driving sales for my clients, and seeing my team get excited about each of their achievements is a gratifying and satisfying part of my job,” Carnett said. The firm now has Norwegian tourism boards, Las Vegas car dealerships and USA Waterpolo as clients. Carnett credits her mentor, a former supervisor at Scandinavian Clinical Nutrition, with helping her hone her business acumen. “Gwen Kent, an old boss and now a best friend, was a great professional mentor,” she says. “She believed in me and … taught me how to read between the lines and negotiate. These crucial skills helped build my successful business and helped drive my motivation.”
