Helping Businesses Take Notes

A father and son team is striking the right notes when it comes to serving their business clients. Peter Berk and Daniel Berk founded Write On Cue Music in Calabasas last month to write branded music used for commercials, websites, trade shows, corporate events and the like. The music created by the Berks is no mere jingle but an identifier for a company and its products. Think of the three-note cue used by NBC or the four-note cue of AT&T. “We are trying to do that for a company in that when you hear three or five notes you know right away that it’s that company,” said Peter Berk, 55. The elder Berk started the company after selling his share in a public relations firm. The new venture allows him to combine his love of music with his professional expertise. His son Daniel, 22, brings the musical background, being proficient on the piano, bass, guitar and drums. He has done work for independent films, commercials, promotional videos and web series. The Berks partnered with Six Lane Highway, a Simi Valley multimedia production company that refers clients in need of music. M2Catalyst, an app development company in Alisa Viejo; Give 2 the Troops, a Rocky Hill. Conn. nonprofit; and Big House Publishing, a New York music publishing firm already have signed on as customers. The pair first research a client’s business to determine the image or vibe being achieved and then create the music. “You start writing and send examples of what you come up with,” Daniel Berk said. “It is a back-and-forth until they are satisfied.” – Mark R.
