The Santa Clarita Signal named Randy Morton this week as the new publisher of the daily newspaper. Morton fills a vacancy left by the resignation in May 2011 of Ian Lamont as the Signal’s publisher. Morris Thomas, the general manager, had been interim publisher. Morton comes to the Signal from The Statesboro Herald in Georgia where he had been publisher since 1995. The Signal is owned by Morris Newspaper Group, which Morton joined in 1973. He served in various positions at the Statesboro Herald and other Morris newspapers before returning to the Herald. Morton has a master’s degree from Georgia Southern University. Mark R. Madler
