Ford Dealer Snags Some Sparks

Simi Valley Ford, a sponsor of the Los Angeles Sparks, this month will host a basketball clinic and meet and greet with a few of the WNBA team’s players and head coach. Rookie forward Nneka Ogwumike, forward DeLisha Milton-Jones and head coach Carol Ross will be at the dealership July 28. “There are a lot of kids in this area who play basketball,” said Larry Hibbler, owner of Simi Valley Ford. “We’re inviting all the young folks to get some insight into playing the game.” Hibbler started his sponsorship of the Sparks this season after meeting the team owner during a golf game. The dealer is also the official automotive supplier. Becoming a sponsor gives added exposure for the dealer at the games and in the team program, Hibbler said. The clinic is the first of several that Simi Valley Ford will host, Hibbler added. The free event takes place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Now in their 16th season, the Sparks are one of the three original teams in the WNBA. The team won the league championship in 2001 and 2002. – Mark R.
