Walmart Makes Plans for Camarillo

National retail chain Walmart is making moves to set up a Walmart Neighborhood Market in Camarillo, city officials confirmed. The company applied for permits in October to sell groceries in the former Linens N’ Things space at the Camarillo Town Center Plaza, said Bob Burrow, director of the city’s community development department. The 36,000-square-foot store will be a smaller concept than a typical Walmart retailer, which averages about 108,000 square feet, according to the company’s website. This will be the first Walmart in Camarillo and it will join existing big box retailer Target, which is also in the shopping center. The company has applied to the state for a permit to sell alcohol but has yet to apply to the city, Burrow said. The date for the store’s opening has not been announced, he added. Angela Melero
