Last year breaks record for filming in Santa Clarita

Filming in Santa Clarita boomed last year. The Santa Clarita Valley Film Office recorded 901 film days and 359 film permits in 2011, the largest tally since the office was created in 2002. Location filming provided a $19.36 million boost to the local economy, a 7 percent jump from 2010, according to a news release announcing the figures. The previous record for filming in the city came in 2007 and 2009, when the city issued 329 film permits and saw 867 film days, respectively. “We were busy in 2011 and are happy Santa Clarita remained one of the top places to base and film on location in California,” Santa Clarita Mayor Laurie Ender said in a statement. The city said local and state subsidies helped contribute to a successful year.
