Disney Signs China VOD Deal

The Walt Disney Co. will make its film library available for video-on-demand in China after signing an agreement with YOU on Demand Holdings Inc. The deal between the Burbank entertainment and media conglomerate and New York-based YOU on Demand will add current titles like “The Help” and “Cars 2″ and Disney classics including “The Lion King” and “Mary Poppins” to YOU on Demand’s offerings. YOU on Demand offers pay-per-view and subscription video-on-demand services in China. “We are very proud to work with The Walt Disney Company in bringing the best in home entertainment to China,” said YOU on Demand CEO Shane McMahon in a prepared statement. “Disney films define quality family entertainment and we’re thrilled that YOU On Demand will be their showcase to the world’s largest television audience.” In June, Warner Bros. Entertainment entered into a joint venture with YOU on Demand to distribute current and library titles through cable television in China. Mark R. Madler
