Dino Skulls Adds Spunk to Shoes

Chatsworth-based Sculpted Footwear LLC is bringing some prehistoric style back to footwear. This spring, the company, known for its dinosaur-themed shoe brands DinoSoles and DinoSkulls, will hit the small screen as part of the wardrobe for the popular Nickelodeon television show “Dino Dan.” Since its founding in 2003, the company has also developed some big-name clients. Celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Britney Spears have chosen to sport DinoSoles on their little ones. Created for children between the ages of two and seven, DinoSoles is a collection of sneakers imprinted with dinosaur graphics. Although originally targeted to a younger audience, in the fall the company will be launching an adult collection for DinoSkulls, a line of canvas shoes featuring a dinosaur skull print. Adult sizes will be priced at $24.99. Although dinosaur themes in children’s fashion and footwear are not new, Chris Morris, CEO of Sculpted Footwear, said the company is presenting a more realistic concept to its young audience. “A lot of companies design down to children,” Morris said. “Kids are a lot more sophisticated than we realize.” Avoiding “cutesy” dinosaur images, DinoSoles and DinoSkulls present realistic depictions of the animals so as to better “empower the kids who put them on their feet,” he said. The company’s shoes are currently sold at several retail outlets including Universal Studios theme parks, Disneyland theme parks, Amazon and the American Museum of Natural History. Last year, the company landed its largest brick and mortar client to date, national retailer Famous Footwear. — Angela Melero
