Tutor Perini Awarded NYC Bridge Contract

Tutor Perini Corp. said Tuesday it was awarded a $235 million contract by New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority to replace the upper level deck of the Verrazano-Narrows bridge in New York. Jack Frost, chief executive of Tutor’s civil group, said the company’s background in transportation projects makes them a good fit for the job working on the bridge that connects Staten Island and Brooklyn. “Tutor Perini has a long history of providing bridge and highway construction services in support of the country’s transportation infrastructure,” said Frost, in a prepared statement. The bridge project is expected to begin early next year and be completed by the year end of 2017. A statement announcing the project did not mention Hurricane Sandy as a contributing factor for the bridge’s condition. The company also received three recent trade awards for projects it completed in New York, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. Shares gained 12 cents, or less than 1 percent, to close at $13.18 on the New York Stock Exchange.
