THQ Sells Off PC Games, Software Developer

Video game publisher THQ Inc. has sold off its ValuSoft division that makes value-based PC games and software to Cosmi Corporation. Terms of the deal between Agoura Hills-based THQ and Cosmi, with headquarters in Westminster, were not disclosed. The move by THQ allows the company to better focus on its core console and online game offerings, said President and CEO Brian Farrell. “This shift also presents a great, new opportunity for ValuSoft and its broad portfolio of products,” Farrell said in a prepared statement. ValuSoft is based in Minnesota and has developed the “18 Wheels of Steel” and “Master Cook” game franchises. The acquisition makes Cosmi the second largest U.S. retail publisher of PC games in units sold and the number one retail publisher in the value software category by units sold. “Adding ValuSoft gives us the significant size and scope to better meet the needs of our retailer network and customers,” Cosmi President Edward O. Lanchantin said in a prepared statement. Mark R. Madler
