The Walt Disney Co. has formed a partnership with the Chinese government and the largest Internet service provider in China to develop content and train local animation talent.

The National Animation Creative Research and Development Corp. will create programming for movie theaters, television and online distribution.

The Burbank-based entertainment and media conglomerate is joined in the partnership by the Ministry of Culture's China Animation Group, and Internet service provider Tencent.

The NAC Research and Development Corp. recognizes the importance of developing original local animation content, said Andy Bird, chairman of Walt Disney International.

“Disney's involvement builds on our expertise and long term commitment to nurture the local original animation industry,” Bird said in a prepared statement.
