Delta Scientific began manufacturing barricade systems that promote safety and security for pedestrians and commercial properties in 1974. Their products consist of high-security vehicle barricade systems, parking control equipment and guard booths. Headquartered in Palmdale, the company also has facilities in Fredericksburg, Va. and Berkshire, UK. It employs more than 175 people. The Palmdale location is 125,000-square-feet and it includes another 65,000-square-foot manufacturing center just adjacent to it. The company is run by Harry Dickinson and his son David Dickinson. According to David, the company began to see accelerated growth in the 1980s when it began to receive calls from numerous countries inquiring about different barriers and security systems. Although Delta manufactures barriers for countries all over the world, most of their customer base is located in the United Sates – helping the federal government, U.S. Navy and Air Force, local police departments, U.S. and foreign embassies and many privately owned companies. Delta recently decided to “go green” and offer more than 50 hydraulic barricade designs that can be run on FDA approved vegetable oils. Their hydraulic systems use a patented low duty cycle design that reduces the motor size by three fold. They are also made to have low maintenance requirements and quiet operation. – Celina Avallone
