EXECUTIVE SUMMARY / THE PACESETTER – Colleges & Universities

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Largest Colleges and Universities List is comprised of both public and private institutions in the greater San Fernando Valley area. It is ranked by the full-time equivalent students enrolled at the school for 2010-2011. Tuition fees vary from school to school so they are broken down on the List by semester (S), unit (U) and year (Y). Enrollment figures stayed fairly constant. The smallest schools, National University and Phillips Graduate Institute, showed the biggest drops of enrollment. Compared to last year’s numbers, National University declined by 98 students and Phillips Graduate by 48. – By Josh Dausch THE PACESETTER The List is once again topped by California State University, Northridge with a total of 27,436 full-time students. CSUN saw increases in its cost this year, jumping from $2,013 to $2,220 for tuition and from $380 to $482 for in-state/out-of-state fees. The University’s budget also increased significantly from $303 million to $336 million, closer to where it was at $319 million for the 2008-2009 school year. The University is a public college that offers Bachelor’s Degrees in 61 fields and Master’s Degrees in 42 fields. It became an independent college in 1958 and assumed its current name in 1972. CSUN is headed by Jolene Koester, who has served as president since 2000. – By Josh Dausch Download the 2011 SFV’s LARGEST COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES list (pdf)
