Hoop Stars Play in All Dimensions

Cameras systems developed by Cameron-Pace Group broadcast the NBA Finals games in 3D in the U.S. and around the world. The games were televised live, in 3D, and high-definition for the first time ever. It also was the first time the Burbank-based company had duplicate camera systems to cover NBA games in two cities. Cameron-Pace is a company founded by noted filmmaker James Cameron and camera developer Vince Pace. The pair has worked together for years to create innovations for 3D in theatrical films and now bring that same expertise to television broadcasts. The 3D NBA Finals games were shown on ESPN 3D in the U.S. and on ESPN International to Asia, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean and Latin America. “The NBA Finals footage is spectacular,” said Paul Tobyansen, operations producer at Cameron-Pace. “We’re thrilled that fans from as far away as Australia, France, Spain, Portugal, Turkey and United Kingdom can experience FUSION 3D technology and enjoy this ‘at the game’ experience.” The company said it is now collaborating with ESPN to supply its camera system for broadcasting additional sporting events on the ESPN 3D network. Cameron-Pace and ESPN had previously collaborated on the All-Star Game, Friday Night Fights, Winter X Games 15, and the Masters Golf Tournament. — Mark R. Madler
