Cards Play on Golf Culture

“Loved your tournament. Hated my score.” That’s one message in a new collection of golf-themed note cards by Burbank-based Fore Creative. Creative Director Bob Matsumodo, an advertising industry veteran who has worked on campaigns for companies such as Volkswagen and Taylor Made, said ideas for the cards came from banter he’s overheard or engaged in while on the green. “I’m reflecting back on what I feel is a community of humor,” he said. The collection features an assortment of golf invitations and reply note cards designed for golfers who want to stay in touch. The note card sets include eight different cards featuring black and white photography of golf related images. Matsumodo said the cards are witty and sophisticated, and are a great alternative to e-mail communication. “Emailing can’t convey the expressions unless it comes from a third-party like the note cards,” Matsumodo said. “They’re gonna put a smile on a lot of faces.” Fore Creative got off the ground two months ago, but Matsumoto said he’s already planning a follow-up collection to the cards. He’s also planning to market his products to local golf courses and country clubs. “I’m familiar with the courses and club in the Valley,” he said. “They’ll be getting samples.” — Angela Melero
