New iPhone Draws Crowds to Area Malls

Crowds lined up to pick up the latest version of the iPhone at the Apple Store at Westfield Topanga on June 24 were orderly and caused no problems, mall management said. There were at least 550 people lined up prior to 8 a.m. at the Canoga Park shopping center with between 1,200 people and 1,500 people coming through during the day, said Senior General Manager Erick Klafter. “We were expecting and prepared for a line and crowd,” Klafter said. The store and mall security worked hand and hand to give Apple the support they needed.” At Westfield Fashion Square mall in Sherman Oaks, about 1,300 people were in line throughout the day to pick up an iPhone, a mall spokesperson said.
