Download the 2010 SFV’s LARGEST HOSPITALS list (pdf) EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The List of the greater Valley’s largest hospitals collects and ranks each facility by its average daily census in 2010. This is calculated by dividing the total inpatient days by 365. This number is then divided against the number of beds to determine each hospital’s percent occupancy rate. The biggest change on this year’s List was Antelope Valley Hospital moving up from No. 2 in 2009 to the top spot this year, overtaking the Glendale Adventist Medical Center with an average daily census of 310. Another important change was the closing of Lancaster Community Hospital as it relocated to the brand new Palmdale Regional Medical Center in December of 2010. – By Josh Dausch THE PACESETTER The hospital with the largest average daily census in 2010 is the Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster. Established in 1955, the facility has 420 beds available and is the Antelope Valley’s only full service hospital. It employs over 2,000 people and is well regarded for its obstetrical, maternal child health, diagnostic imaging and critical care services. This past May, the hospital became a Level II Trauma Center with its ability to provide faster care to those involved in serious accidents.
