Palmdale Medical Center Passes Final Inspection; Opening Dec. 11

The Palmdale Regional Medical Center will officially open Dec. 11 after passing its final inspection by the Department of Public Health. The facility will replace Lancaster Community Hospital, which will close its emergency room at 6 a.m. The emergency room at the new medical center will then open at 6 a.m. to patients. Palmdale Regional is the first new hospital to open in the Antelope Valley in about 20 years and features all private rooms. The facility will initially have 121 beds and open another 36 beds in January. When fully built out the capacity will be 239 beds. Medical center owner Universal Health Services Inc. began planning for the medical center in 2001. Completion was delayed after the state’s Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development required additional fire dampeners be put in the walls and 450 more smoke detectors be installed. Mark R.
