Brinson Pursues a Momentous Career

Since she branched out on her own and launched Momentous in 2008, Diane Brinson has grown her insurance agency from 80 to 115 employees; has brought the number of clients into the thousands and experienced a 15 percent growth in revenue. Even through the down economy she has taken her Van Nuys company into the ranks of the nation’s top privately held insurance agencies according to a national survey conducted by Insurance Journal Magazine published Aug. 2. Brinson is also featured as one of the leading wealth and legal advisors to high net worth individuals in the August issue of Worth magazine. “Within the insurance world we are doing what we love, we love entertainment, we love sports, we love what we do, it didn’t happen by accident,” said Brinson, whose company’s strength is in providing insurance and risk management to entertainment and sports celebrities and other high net worth individuals. Her company, Brinson said, insures all aspects of film and television productions from the cast members themselves to the props, wardrobe and set. They provide insurance when companies want to shoot out of the country; they insure the vehicles used in production; all the production expenses; and insure for workers compensation, among a myriad of other things. Momentous also insures touring companies and concerts. In December the company launched a sports division and has already signed more than 100 athletes using the agency’s clout to help those that have had injuries or medical problems receive good coverage. The full-service agency also provides insurance and risk management consultation for small and medium sized businesses, as well as life, health and disability for individuals and groups. Male-dominated business “Diane is in a business that’s mostly male dominated but everyone else move over, there’s a new sheriff in town,” said Sunday Rodriguez, senior risk manager at Nigro Karlin Segal & Feldstein, LLP a certified public accounting and business management firm that specializes in high net worth individuals and in the sports and entertainment industries. NKSF is a client of Momentous, and Momentous in turn provides services for a large portion of NKSF’s clients. “What I like about Momentous is that it’s not about the buck, it’s a bout looking out for the clients and providing the best possible service,” Rodriguez said. NKSF has been a client of Brinson for more than 10 years, following her and her team as they moved from one national insurance brokerage to another and finally to Momentous, Rodriguez said. ‘Community driven’ “I’m not very typical compared to other insurance people,” said Brinson, who graduated with a degree in visual arts from Florida State University. “I try to stay away from corporate America and from the earnings per share mentality. I’m more community driven.” Brinson, who has 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, says her company is guided by the passions and interests of her employees for entertainment, sports and the other business areas that they cover. As for her, “My passion is people, my thing is mentoring people, I’m more excited about the success of the individuals here, they are my family and I take it very personally,” she said. When it comes to the continued success of Momentous she credits the company’s deliberate effort to know and understand their clients and their willingness to be a part of the community. “It all boils down to relationships,” she said.
