ABA Fund gets $5.2 Million for Pro Bono Services, Education

The American Bar Endowment announced $5.2 million in grant awards to the American Bar Association Fund for Justice and Education and the American Bar Foundation recently. “Our donations this year to the ABA Fund for Justice and Education and the American Bar Foundation mean these organizations will continue to undertake important legal research that improve justice for all of us while supporting legal scholarship funds and other programs for those in need,” said ABE President Rod Mathews. The endowment sponsors insurance programs that are specifically tailored to the needs of lawyers and have a charitable giving feature, which allows member lawyers to donate their dividends each year. Approximately 85 percent of the lawyers participating in ABE-sponsored insurance donate their dividends each year to the American Bar Endowment. The ABE supports research into areas such as discrimination, the civil jury system, internationalization of legal values and the rule of law, as well as pro bono services that help the poor and others in need.
