T.O. prioritizing budget cuts; council expects $3.2 million deficit

The Thousand Oaks City Council briefly pondered salary freezes as a way to fix a $3.2 million budget deficit before voting unanimously Tuesday night to have its finance committee begin prioritizing potential cuts to close the gap. The deficit is projected for the 2009-10 fiscal year, which will begin July 1. While the budget is not expected to go before the council until April, council members received an update Tuesday on the city’s 2009 10-year fiscal strategic plan, which projects revenue and expenditures in the coming years.
