Restaurants Get Help with Menu Labeling Law

The California Restaurant Association will partner with FoodCalc, makers of an online tool called MenuCalc, which instantly calculates the nutritional profile of recipes. The partnership arose in light of a California law that requires chain restaurants with 20 or more locations to provide nutritional information to consumers either on a menu or menu board. California is the first state in the country to pass menu-labeling legislation. “The CRA is excited to begin a partnership with FoodCalc as many of our members look for ways to comply with (the state law),” said association President and CEO Jot Condie. “We see true value in their accurate online system, MenuCalc, combined with individualized access to trained registered dietitians.” Menu labeling has historically been too expensive for many restaurants to obtain. “Our mission is to offer all restaurants, regardless of size, a cost-effective and technologically-advanced nutritional analysis solution that helps them stay competitive in today’s tough economy,” said FoodCalc President and CEO Lucy Needham.
