New CEO at Valley Presbyterian Hospital

Valley Presbyterian Hospital appointed Gustavo Valdespino as President and Chief Executive Officer, to succeed Albert L. Greene, who passed away in April. Valdespino was chosen unanimously by a search committee during an extensive interview and selection process. He starts the position on Sept. 1. “I am confident that we found a stellar leader in Mr. Valdespino and I am certain he will preserve Al Greene’s legacy of growth and the provision of quality health care service for our diverse community,” said Dr. Gregory L. Kay, who has served as Interim Chief Executive Officer for the past three months. Green, who served as CEO for three years, is credited with helping turn the hospital around financially, and putting it on its current path as one of the fastest growing hospitals in the area. In the last three years, the hospital’s average daily patient census has increased by over 25 percent. Under his leadership, the hospital underwent a significant transformation that has required over $16.6 million in capital improvements, including the purchase of new state of the art technological equipment as well as the implementation of Electronic Nursing Documentation, among other things. Valdespino, who has 25 years of hospital management experience, and has served as chief executive of several hospitals, most recently served as head of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County a nationwide non-profit organization dedicated to providing one-on-one mentoring for children. Prior to that, he served as Senior Vice President of Operations for Tenet Health Corporation’s Southern California Region, and as President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles.
